We’re part of the state’s Pre-K Program
Activity centers – including art corners, reading nooks, science tables, floor space for blocks, and a theater for dramatic play – fill our pre-kindergarten classrooms. From mid-September to mid-June, children eagerly engage in these centers, developing early literacy, math and science skills while at play.

Ready to Learn participates in two of the 17 classrooms in the state’s Pre-Kindergarten Project, a program administered by the RI Department of Education to demonstrate the value of high-quality early care and education. Children are chosen by lottery, and the program is offered at no cost to parents.
The R2LP Pre-kindergarten Classroom at CCRI (on the Liston Campus in Providence) has participated in the Pre-K Project since 2009. BrightStars, the state’s quality rating and improvement system, has recognized it as a five-star program since 2010.
In the summer of 2013, R2LP was granted a second state-funded pre-kindergarten classroom in partnership with the Heritage Park YMCA Early Learning Center in Pawtucket. An experienced teacher and assistant teacher, assisted by R2LP AmeriCorps members, staff each of the classrooms. Each setting accommodates 18 children.
The state funds the Pre-K classrooms on an annual basis. RIDE holds its lottery for the Pre-K sites in the summer (after the state has approved the funding).
We encourage all parents to apply, but they must be residents of Providence to qualify for the R2LP classroom at CCRI, and residents of Pawtucket for the classroom at Heritage Park. Children must turn 4 by September 1. Applications and instructions in English and Spanish are available on this website and elsewhere several weeks before the lottery is held.
